SUNDAY 2ND APRIL 2017
FIRST TEE: 10:30AM
2017 champion
"the bunkers masters"
chris berry
The first Major of Bunkers 2017 season was played at Dunham Forest Golf & Country Club on a bright and sunny spring day and was Sponsored by our friends at www.golfbreaks4u.com Positioning of the golf ball is important - and on Dunham Forest, this is a prerequisite. Chris made sure of this by plotting his way around the 18 holes and shooting 4 under his handicap to walk off with 40 Stableford points! With pin point accuracy from the tee, some solid work with mid irons and deadly aim putting Chris set about scoring strongly and earned himself a first Major victory. A solid performance throughout to come home with 'The Blue Jacket'. Congratulations and well done on a great round. |
CLUB & COURSE REVIEW
Once again, Dunham Forest never fails to disappoint and this was another superb day out. There had been very heavy rain the night before our visit and there were patches of standing water around the course but nothing that ruined the day.
We found the course generally to be dry under foot and the fairways were well cut and nice to play from. The greens had a slight bobble on them but thats understandable for early in the season and in comparison to a lot of local clubs at this time of year, they were very good and the majority of our members had no issues on them throughout the 18 holes.
The bunkers were all raked and playable - despite a lot of other clubs being GUR at this point in the season, or compressed due to rain - so hats off to DFGC for that.
The layout is interesting and would be a lot tighter and tricker in the summer when all the trees and bushes are in full bloom. Each hole offers something unique and quite a few of the holes you play without seeing the holes either side. The undulations are tricky without being overly tiring - although we suggest that elderly visitors may want to consider a buggy as it is a fair walk.
We paid £45 for the golf at 11am on a Sunday, and £10 for steak baguette and chips. The food was again superb and the hospitality was great but we feel that the club could be just a touch cheaper at this time of year and a more appropriate price would be around £45 all inclusive rather than £55 price rise for 2017.
However, the course was great as always and it is definitely a venue Bunkers would recommend to golfers of all abilities.

Currently ranked 8th best course in Cheshire, Dunham Forest is a stunning course designed to follow the picturesque contours of the natural landscape. Originally laid out in 1960 as a 9 hole course which within a few years had expanded to 13 holes. In the mid 1970’s the final 5 holes, designed by ex-Ryder Cup player and top international course designer Dave Thomas, were completed to give them the full 18 hole layout we see today. The club is proud to be custodians of what is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful parkland golf courses in the UK.
The course is cut into the landscape beautifully and each hole is entirely different from the last with some absolutely stunning holes that stick in the mind after the round. The greens are as smooth and slick as any you are likely to have the privilege of playing on and the course is always in immaculate condition, regardless of the conditions in days prior. With a superb sand base the course drains exceptionally well, making this a true 'all year round' track.
