We revisited the fabulous Warrington Golf Club - and once again, the sun shone brightly on another Bunkers day out.
The course was in immaculate condition - as always - and the lads enjoyed a superb days golf with some impressive scoring across the board. However, this weeks winner took the victory [and our brand new trophy donated by the club] on a card playoff, following a great knock. Phil obviously enjoys this place and the course must suit his eye as he defended her 2015 victory at Warrington with another great score of 37 Stableford Points. CONGRATULATIONS. |
REVIEW OF THE DAY
Our second visit to Warrington Golf Club was eagerly anticipated and the good weather meant that a number of the more daring members showed off their legs for what could possibly be the only time this year.
Warrington is a brilliant local club and Tracy and her team made every effort to ensure that each and every member felt welcome. The gesture of a trophy for our day was very much appreciated and without doubt Warrington will remain on the fixture list for years to come.
The course was in immaculate condition - as always - with their hand mown greens and line rolled fairways, it is always treat on the eyes. The course had gone through green maintenance a couple of weeks before our visit, but was still in great knick.
The course has a great layout with some really testing holes, mixed in with some that are a real pleasure to stand and admire - such as the elevated 7th tee that looks out for miles around.
As a total package, Warrington offers everything we would want from a club. Warmth of welcome, great hospitality, a beautiful course that is maintained to the highest standards and excellent value for money - whats not to like about all that?
Some good golf was played on the day and Phil Williams came out on top for the second year in succession with a good knock of 37 points beating Chris Parrish in a card playoff. Solid off the tee leaving the driver alone for most of the round and hitting a decent percentage of greens in regulation meant that even a few missed putts didn't ruin his day.

Warrington Golf Club was voted as Bunkers Golf Society members as their favourite course visited in 2015, and so it was with little persuasion that we have looked to revisit this year. The Club was founded in 1903 and is located on the south side of the town. Being positioned at the highest point in Warrington, it affords fine views of the local area as well as the Pennines and Welsh hills.
The course measures 6,211 yards, par 71 for men and is a fair and enjoyable test for any level of golfer. The superb drainage makes play possible for 52 weeks of the year. The course is renowned for being kept in immaculate condition and having lush and spongy fairways with superbly manicured greens that are a joy to play on.
If you have played Warrington you will need little or no persuasion regarding the merits of the course. Warrington Golf Club is a traditional parkland/heathland course established in 1903. At 6211 yards from the white tees, it's a true test of golfing skill. The course's main defences are the greens, which are regularly amongst the best in the country and the views from the 7th tee are stunning.
